If you have searched for the best microblading in Kathmandu, you have probably found a dozen salons quoting wildly different prices and very few explaining what you are actually paying for. This guide fixes that. It covers what microblading is, what it costs in Nepal in 2026, how the healing process really works week by week, and the questions that separate a properly trained permanent makeup artist from someone who took a two-day workshop.
What microblading actually is
Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo. A hand-held tool with a row of fine needles deposits pigment into the upper layers of the skin in hair-like strokes that mimic your natural brow hairs. It is not a marker, it is not henna, and it does not wash off. Done properly, the result reads as brow hair rather than a block of colour, which is why technique matters far more than the tool.
Because the pigment sits in the upper dermis rather than deep in the skin like a body tattoo, it fades over time. That is a feature, not a flaw. Brow trends change, and your face changes, so a result that softens over one to three years is far safer than one that is genuinely permanent.
Microblading vs microshading vs nano brows
These three get confused constantly, and choosing the wrong one is the most common reason people are disappointed:
- Microblading creates crisp individual hair strokes. It suits normal to dry skin and clients who want a natural, textured brow. Explore our microblading service in Kathmandu.
- Microshading uses tiny dots of pigment to build a soft, powdered fill, like a lightly pencilled brow. It holds far better on oily skin, where crisp strokes tend to blur.
- Nano brows use a single fine needle on a digital machine to draw strokes with more control and less trauma to the skin. It is the most versatile option and works on skin types that reject microblading. See PMU Nano Brows.
If your skin is oily or you have large pores across the brow area, an honest artist will steer you away from pure microblading. Being told “microblading works on everyone” is a warning sign.
Microblading price in Kathmandu (2026)
Here is what brow permanent makeup costs at our Sohrakhutte studio, including the touch-up consultation:
| Treatment | Price (NPR) | Time | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Microblading | 15,000 | 90–120 min | 1–3 years |
| PMU Nano Brows | 32,500 | 120–150 min | 2–3 years |
| Lip Blush PMU | 21,500 | 90–120 min | 2–3 years |
| Brow Lamination | From 2,500 | 45–60 min | 6–8 weeks |
| Brow Shape & Wax | From 500 | 20–30 min | 3–4 weeks |
Be careful with very low quotes. If someone offers microblading for NPR 4,000–6,000, something is being cut. Usually it is pigment quality, needle sterility, or the artist’s training. Corrective work — removal or a cover-up by a specialist — costs far more than getting it right the first time, and some badly placed pigment can never be fully removed.
The healing timeline, honestly
Almost every complaint about microblading comes from someone judging the result on day four. Here is what actually happens:
- Days 1–3: Brows look dramatically darker, sharper and thicker than the final result. This is normal. Do not panic.
- Days 4–7: Light flaking begins. Do not pick. Pulling a scab out early pulls the pigment with it and creates patches.
- Days 8–14: The “ghosting” phase. The brows can look far too light, as if the treatment failed. The pigment is still there, sitting under a fresh layer of healed skin.
- Weeks 3–6: Colour resurfaces and settles into its true tone.
- Week 6–8: Touch-up appointment. This is where the work is perfected — density, symmetry and any spots that healed lighter. The touch-up is part of the treatment, not an upsell.
Aftercare that actually protects your result
For the first 10 days: keep the area dry, no swimming, no sauna, no steam, no heavy sweating at the gym. Sleep on your back if you can. Skip makeup on the brow area. Once healed, sunscreen is the single biggest factor in how long your brows last — UV exposure is what fades pigment fastest, and Kathmandu sits at high altitude with strong UV year-round.
Avoid retinol, AHA and BHA exfoliants directly on the brow area for the life of the pigment. They are designed to accelerate cell turnover, which is exactly what pushes your pigment out.
How to choose a microblading artist in Kathmandu
Price is the wrong first filter. Ask these instead:
- Can I see healed results, not just fresh ones? Fresh photos taken minutes after the appointment always look good. Healed photos at six weeks tell you whether the artist can actually retain pigment.
- What pigments do you use? Reputable artists name their brand. We use professional Goochie pigments as the authorized distributor for Nepal, so we know exactly what is going into the skin.
- Are needles single-use and opened in front of me? The correct answer is yes, always, with no exceptions.
- Do you patch test? A pigment sensitivity test 24–48 hours before is standard practice.
- Is a touch-up included? If not, add that cost to the quote before comparing.
- Do you map my brows before starting? Brow mapping with a ruler and measurement of your facial proportions should happen while you are sitting up, before any pigment is opened. If someone starts drawing freehand on a reclined client, leave.
Who should not get microblading
A good artist will turn work away. Microblading is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, on Accutane (or within 12 months of stopping), undergoing chemotherapy, have keloid-prone skin, uncontrolled diabetes, or an active skin condition in the brow area such as eczema or psoriasis. Blood thinners and recent Botox in the forehead also need to be discussed first.
Want to learn microblading instead?
Many of our clients come in for treatment and leave asking about training. We run a one-week Microblading & Microshading course in Kathmandu at NPR 95,000, which includes a full professional kit, brow mapping and colour theory, live model practice, a certificate, and internship support. There is also a 14-day Ultimate Brows Masterclass at NPR 1,65,000 that adds nano machine training and a master kit box worth NPR 75,000. International students can find visa and accommodation guidance on our international courses page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does microblading cost in Kathmandu?
Microblading at Artistry Academy costs NPR 15,000 and takes 90 to 120 minutes, with a touch-up at six to eight weeks. Nano brows cost NPR 32,500 and lip blush PMU is NPR 21,500. Be cautious of quotes under NPR 6,000, which usually indicate low-grade pigment or an undertrained artist.
Does microblading hurt?
Most clients describe it as light scratching rather than pain. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure and reapplied during it, so discomfort is usually rated two or three out of ten. The brow area is less sensitive than the lip area.
How long does microblading last?
Microblading lasts one to three years depending on your skin type, sun exposure and skincare routine. Oily skin and regular use of retinol or acid exfoliants will fade pigment faster. Daily sunscreen is the most effective way to extend your result.
What is the difference between microblading and microshading?
Microblading creates crisp individual hair strokes and suits normal to dry skin. Microshading builds a soft powdered fill using tiny dots of pigment and holds much better on oily skin. Many clients get a combination of both for a natural front and a defined tail.
How soon can I wash my face after microblading?
Keep the brow area completely dry for the first ten days. You can wash the rest of your face carefully, avoiding the brows. No swimming, sauna, steam rooms or heavy sweating during this period, as moisture lifts pigment out of healing skin.
Can microblading be removed if I do not like it?
It can be lightened with saline or laser removal, but the process takes multiple sessions over several months and results vary. This is exactly why choosing a properly trained artist the first time matters far more than saving a few thousand rupees.
