Your wedding is the most photographed day of your life, and in Nepal it is rarely a single day — there is the mehendi, the haldi, the sangeet, the ceremony itself and the reception. Booking bridal makeup in Kathmandu is not just about one look; it is about a plan that survives long ceremonies, hot lights, tears and hours of photography. This guide covers realistic prices, timelines, and the questions to ask before you pay a deposit.

Most brides book more than one service. A typical package is bridal makeup on the day, lash extensions and brow work a week before, and a course of facials in the months leading up.
Your pre-wedding beauty timeline
The single biggest mistake brides make is trying something new in the last week. Skin needs time to settle, and semi-permanent treatments need time to heal. Work backwards from your date:
6 months before
Start facials if you want a genuine change in skin texture or pigmentation. One facial the week before a wedding does very little; a course of six does a lot. This is also the window for microblading or nano brows if you want permanent makeup — it needs a touch-up at six to eight weeks and then time to settle into its final tone.
2–3 months before
Book your bridal makeup trial. Do it in daylight, wear a white or cream top so you can judge the finish against your outfit, and take photos with flash — flash is the true test of whether a foundation is going to leave you looking grey in every photograph.
1 month before
Finalise your look. Stop experimenting with new skincare actives now. If you are doing lip blush PMU (NPR 21,500), this is the latest sensible window so it heals fully.
1–2 weeks before
Lash extensions, brow lamination, and your final facial. This is the sweet spot: enough time for any redness to settle, close enough that everything still looks fresh.
2–3 days before
Manicure with gel polish (NPR 2,500) and pedicure (NPR 2,000). Gel lasts through the whole wedding week without chipping. Your hands appear in every ring shot and every mehendi photo.
The day itself
Eat something. Hydrate. Have your outfit and jewellery in the room so the artist can match tones. Allow 90 to 120 minutes and do not schedule anything immediately before.
What to ask before you book
- Is a trial included, and does it cost extra? Get this in writing.
- Do you travel to the venue, and what is the charge? Early-morning ceremonies often mean a 4 AM start for the artist.
- How many people are you doing that day? If your artist has three brides booked, you may not get their full attention.
- Which products do you use, and are brushes sanitised between clients?
- Can you show me work on my skin tone? This matters enormously. Foundation matching on deeper skin tones is where inexperienced artists fail most visibly.
- What is your backup plan if you fall ill? Professional artists have one.
Makeup that survives a Nepali wedding
Long ceremonies, warm halls, incense smoke and emotional moments are hard on makeup. A few things genuinely help:
- Ask for a long-wear or HD base rather than a heavy, cakey one. Coverage should be buildable where you need it, not uniform everywhere.
- Waterproof mascara and eyeliner are non-negotiable. You will cry. Everyone does.
- Get a touch-up kit from your artist — your exact lipstick, blotting papers and a compact powder — and give it to whoever is holding your bag.
- Consider lash extensions instead of strip lashes. Strips lift at the corner after a few hours; extensions do not move.
- Blot, do not add powder. Layering powder over a long day is what creates that heavy look in reception photos.
For the bridal party
Mothers, sisters and friends usually want party and event makeup from NPR 7,500. Book everyone in one block and sequence it so the bride is last — that way her makeup is the freshest when photography starts. Tell your artist the total headcount when you book, not the week before.

Frequently asked questions
How much does bridal makeup cost in Kathmandu?
Bridal makeup at Artistry Academy starts at NPR 20,000 and takes 90 to 120 minutes. Party and event makeup for the bridal party starts at NPR 7,500. Most brides also book lash extensions, brow work and pre-wedding facials, which are priced separately.
How far in advance should I book bridal makeup in Nepal?
Book your artist three to six months ahead, especially for dates in peak wedding season. Schedule your trial two to three months before the wedding, and book lash extensions and brow lamination one to two weeks before the ceremony.
Do I need a bridal makeup trial?
Yes. A trial lets you test the base against your skin in daylight and with flash photography, agree on the look, and time how long the application takes. Wear a light-coloured top and bring reference photos and your jewellery if possible.
When should I get microblading before my wedding?
At least three months before. Microblading needs a touch-up at six to eight weeks and then several more weeks for the colour to settle into its true tone. Getting it done in the final month risks brows that are still healing on the day.
Will my makeup last through a full-day ceremony?
With a long-wear base, waterproof eye products and a touch-up kit for lipstick and blotting, yes. Lash extensions rather than strip lashes also help, since strips tend to lift at the outer corner after several hours in a warm hall.
Can you do makeup for the whole bridal party?
Yes. Tell us the total number of people when you book so we can allocate enough time and artists. We sequence appointments so the bride is finished last, keeping her makeup freshest for the ceremony and photographs.
