What a serious PMU curriculum must cover
Anyone can teach you to hold a blade. These are the parts that separate a technician from someone who will damage a client’s face:
Colour theory and pigment selection
This is where most undertrained artists fail, and the failure shows up months later. Pigment does not stay the colour it goes in as — it heals, fades and shifts according to the client’s undertone and the pigment’s own base. Choose wrongly and brows turn grey, red or blue over a year. Understanding warm and cool undertones, how to correct for them, and how a pigment will behave in Nepali skin tones is non-negotiable curriculum.
Brow mapping and facial symmetry
Before any pigment is opened, the brow shape must be measured against the client’s facial proportions while they are sitting upright. Faces are asymmetrical; brows drawn freehand on a reclined client will be too. Mapping is a measurable, teachable process and any course that skips it is not teaching PMU properly.
Skin analysis
Oily skin with large pores will blur crisp microblading strokes within months. Mature or thin skin bruises and takes pigment differently. Knowing when to recommend microshading or nano brows instead of microblading — and knowing when to decline the work — is a core professional skill. Hygiene, contraindications and safety
Single-use needles, cross-contamination control, patch testing, and a clear list of clients you must turn away — pregnancy, Accutane use, keloid-prone skin, uncontrolled diabetes, active skin conditions, chemotherapy. A course that treats this as a footnote is a liability.
Depth control and the healing process
Too shallow and the pigment vanishes; too deep and you get blurred, migrated strokes that are semi-permanent problems. Depth is learned by hand, on real skin, with correction from a trainer standing next to you. This is why model hours matter more than lecture hours.
Machine work, not just manual
Manual microblading alone limits your client base, because it does not suit oily skin. Your PMU kit: what you actually need

You will not be ready for paying clients on the last day of a one-week course, and no honest trainer will tell you otherwise. The path that works:
- Practice on latex and 3D skins until the motion and depth are automatic. Hundreds of repetitions, not dozens.
- Work on models at a heavily discounted rate — be transparent that you are building a portfolio.
- Photograph every result at day one, day seven and week six. Healed photographs at six weeks are what clients and employers actually judge you on.
- Take an internship. Working under supervision in a live salon is where the professional judgement gets built.
- Raise your prices as your healed portfolio improves, not before.
