Undertones: the part that goes wrong
Almost every horror story about permanent makeup — grey brows, red brows, blue brows — traces back to pigment selection, not application. Here is the mechanism.
Every pigment is built from a mix of warm and cool bases. As the pigment fades over months, those bases do not fade evenly. The more stable base outlives the others and becomes the colour your client is left with. Meanwhile, the client’s own skin undertone sits underneath and filters what you see.
- Brows healing grey or blue usually means a pigment with too much cool or black base was used, or it was implanted too deep.
- Brows healing red or orange usually means the warm base outlasted the cool one, common when a pigment that was too warm for the client’s undertone was chosen.
- Brows that vanish usually mean the pigment was too light for the skin, implanted too shallow, or the client’s skin is oily and pushed it out.
