Using numbing safely
- Patch test new clients. Topical anaesthetic allergies are uncommon but real, and the brow and lip areas are not where you want to discover one.
- Respect the timing. Longer is not stronger; over-long application can leave tissue rubbery and harder to work.
- Do not apply to broken or inflamed skin unless the product is formulated for it.
- Ask about medical history. Heart conditions, pregnancy and known reactions to dental anaesthetic all need to be raised at consultation.
- Wipe thoroughly before you start. Residue on the surface interferes with pigment implantation.

What the client should be told
- Keep the area dry for 10 days — no swimming, sauna, steam or heavy gym sweat.
